Whether far removed from civilization or surrounded by concrete, I am invariably drawn to visual scenes rich in conceptual symbolism, graphic impact and irony. A looming nightscape shape of a Sedona cliff rising into the Milky Way is an astounding reminder of how much can be seen in so little light. A ghostly dolphin skeleton lying within rocks next to the Mexican Sea of Cortez speaks volumes regarding local fishing practices. A giant abandoned guitar-like building in Tennessee becomes a whimsical remnant of what used to be grand.
My attraction to these types of images likely stems from spending countless days exploring remote locations in the US and elsewhere combined with a 20-year career photographically conveying concepts for various magazine and newspapers articles as a freelance photographer when I was based in Southern CA.
I continue to seek and visually capture these qualities in natural, artificial, and impacted spaces as well as the people encountered within those places.
